From combat to crafting and everything in between, you will be prepared to immerse yourself in this brand new MMO. You will also find out whether or not you need a high-end gaming PC to get the optimal experience or not.

Understanding the MMO Drought

To fully understand why there is so much hype surrounding New World, it has to be within the context of the MMORPG drought.

If you have been keeping tabs on the MMO scene over the past five or six years or so, you may already be well aware that there have been very few quality titles. While Final Fantasy XIV, Elder Scrolls Online, and a handful of other games have made their mark and remain quite popular, many of these titles don’t scratch the itch for diehard fans of the genre.

If we’re talking about traditional MMO’s, there simply hasn’t been a lot to choose from recently. There are a few charming and obscure titles that have lingered around for years, including Dragon Nest, Villagers and Heroes, and Albion Online, most of these titles have glaring limitations or just don’t quite deliver when it comes to quality.

The MMO formula is tried and tested, and many gamers have been waiting patiently for the next mega-hit, the “next WoW” as it were, but to no avail. So bad has the MMO drought been, that many popular streamers have voiced their concerns regarding the situation on more than one occasion. Even while playing popular titles like Warzone and Fortnite, many streamers have wished mid-stream that a new MMORPG would drop that would give them the same experience as Old School Runescape or the original World of Warcraft.

It’s hard to believe but, even ESO is over 7 years old at this point, and while popular titles like this have been generously supported and updated over the years, if we’re talking about brand new titles and worlds to explore, the MMO genre has been bare. Hype has been building around New World for quite some time simply on the grounds that it was slated as a traditional-style MMORPG that would finally breath life into the genre once again.

What Makes New World Worth Playing?

Of course, just because New World is an MMO doesn’t mean it’s worth playing on those grounds alone. There actually have been a variety of MMORPGs and quasi-MMOs that have dropped over the last few years, but none of them have really left their mark on the gaming world. In short, many of these games either lacked longevity, or had issues with fundamental mechanics. One way or another, very few MMOs that have been released lately have been able to penetrate the market or even overtake ESO or FFXIV because they simply weren’t that good.

New World on the other hand seems legit. While some say its timing couldn’t be more perfect, others point out that it does have a lot to offer that will satisfy both MMO diehards and new PC gamers alike. Mixing beautiful graphics, traditional MMORPG mechanics, and satisfying PVP elements, it does appear to hit the right notes.

Let’s dive a little deeper into some of the specifics and what makes New World worth picking up.

What is the Combat Like in New World?

New World is a skill-based action MMO through and through, so forget about tab targeting and button mashing. More so than most other games in the genre, New World has styled itself as an MMO with a learning curve and a real skill gap that has to be understood and mastered if you want to navigate your way through the game and compete with other players.

It should be noted that PVP does play a big role here. New World even features voice chat, which is not something you often see in these kinds of games. In that way New World is a traditional MMO for the modern era, one backed up by the fundamentals but that is not afraid to invest in a polished experience.

In New World, your weapons will determine your style of play, and each has its own benefits and disadvantages. Understanding how to master your role with certain weapons and deciding on which track to take with them as you level up your player is one of the key areas that the game focuses on.

Another important aspect of the game is crafting, which is an MMO staple that New World runs with. There are various forms of resource management that you have to consider as you gather, mine, trade, and craft your way to better loot.

Gathering skills allow you to harvest resources from the land and require particular tools to get the job done. In New World you can harvest resources through logging, skinning, mining, fishing, and foraging for herbs and other plants. From there, you can acquire refining skills to make better use of these resources, including leatherworking, woodworking, weaving, smelting, and stonecutting. Finally, you can learn advanced trade skills such as weaponsmithing and engineering in order to craft powerful weapons, armor, or healing items.

Compared to other games that are popular in the genre right now, it would appear that New World has captured the spirit of resource management to a T and is one of the more attractive draws to the game alongside its combat.

There’s also a faction system in the game that is sure to lure in gamers who love the prospect of repping certain clans and going head to head with others in PVP.

Despite crushing queue times that Amazon was not prepared for, there really isn’t that much to complain about so far with New World. The world of Aeternum is immersive, there is plenty to see and do from day one, and while the learning curve is steep if you want to master each playstyle, it’s very easy to just pick up the game and have fun. It’s also a single purchase game rather than a subscription so New World has that going for it as well.

"},{"id":"img1","sort_index":1,"type":"image","content":"clx-ra-gaming-pc.jpg","alt":"CLX Gaming PC"},{"id":"p2","sort_index":2,"type":"paragraph","content":"

Do You Need a High-End Gaming PC to Experience New World?

You might be concerned about what kind of PC you need if you intend on running an MMO like New World. And while it doesn’t have the highly detailed and pseudo-realistic graphics of a game like Battlefield, it is true that you may need a high-end gaming PC if you want to get the best gaming experience possible with this hot new title.

New World runs on Amazon Lumberyard and sports beautiful graphics and of course multiplayer PVP elements. Along with a fluid, immersive environment, it is certainly a current-gen quality title despite its traditional leanings.

Amazon recommends a minimum of 8GM of RAM, with a Intel® Core™ i5-2400 or equivalent CPU and a NVIDIA® GTX 670 2GB / AMD Radeon™ R9 280 graphics card. Not startling by any means, but the actual recommended requirements are quite a bit higher-end than this, with the Intel® Core™ i7-2600K or AMD Ryzen™ 5 1400 being the baseline. In other words, you want to make sure you have a gaming desktop that is compatible with the current generation of games if you want to really get the full experience.

Why is this important for a game like New World? Well, one of the perks of a quality MMO is the immersion. You want to be able to get lost in the atmosphere of the game, and that is kind of hard to do when you are playing at the lowest possible graphics settings or when you are experiencing frame stutters. The other key reason is simply the PVP aspect of the game. This is looking like it will turn out to be an MMO with a robust competitive scene, and that means you will be going up against some stuff competition when you finally enter the PVP side of the game. If your gaming performance is lacking, it’s going to impact how well you can keep up, even if you have mastered your weapon class or are an MMO veteran.

A high-end gaming PC such as our signature CLX Ra might be the optimal choice if you are thinking about exploring New World and getting the most out of it. The game looks like it has staying power and could very well be the next big thing to come along in the world of MMO gaming, so investing in a gaming PC with a powerful video card, liquid cooling, and other quality components, will be worth it.

Whether you are just now learning about this brand new MMORPG or have been waiting months for it to drop, you’re going to want to get the full experience.
